Being the big hearted and big shouldered people that we are, Jill and I helped a couple move their stuff to Minnesota. Well, while the unloading was being finished, Jill and the wife of the couple we were helping move went out get beer. They came back with nine six packs of microbrew goodness, some of which we can’t get here at home.
Among them was this, Sir Duluth Oatmeal Stout. This passes the patented Baby-Boy used motor oil test: It is black, opaque, with a hint of that reddish brown color when you hold it up to a strong light.
It has a malty smell, with the requisite hint of hot breakfast cereal that let’s you know this is an oatmeal sout.
The beer is thick, but not syrupy. Some of the stouts can drift over into syrupy territory, but this is a straight ahead heavy beer.
It is not sweet, but it is malty. It has that slightly salty finish that reminds me of good burnt pretzels.
This is a filling beer where one will do nicely, but you will likely want to drink more.
