So I get into the Zon. It’s just a gorgeous pour—a sunny golden hue, and the beer is nicely cloudy, so I know they’re getting the style right. Decent head … all looks good. Not a ton on the nose, but that’s all right. Let’s take a swig … wow, this is pretty nice! They’ve put coriander and orange peel in, and they really help give the beer a nice flavor kick that spreads out across the tongue. That’s what stays with you while you drink this. Beyond that, the back end isn’t much—you don’t even really notice it going down your throat.
I found this one a little difficult to rate—do I give it four mugs? Do I go for the five? Ultimately, I’m going with the four. I do really like this beer, but I think it’s a good choice for a summer beer—not the perfect summer beer. Even though I like the extra flavors brought in to create this style, I think the coriander is almost a little too heavy, and that takes away from total summer refreshment.
